BSC work projects and standards initiatives are incepted at the TC level and drafted at the WG level. BSC standards are approved at the WG, TC and a final ratification at the Board level. BSC currently offers two Technical Committees: the Data Format TC and the Implementation TC.
Data Format Technical Committee (DFTC)
The primary mission of the DFTC is to create Standards that will define technology-agnostic specifications and other reference implementations specifying data, data formats, templates and schema on issues that impact the transportation and global delivery ecosystem. Working Groups under this TC may focus on topics in the areas of Location, Shipment, Fueling, Equipment, Customs documentation, Smart contracts, and other areas as the Committee sees fit and are a priority for the global delivery ecosystem. This TC owns the organization’s technical roadmap.
Bill of Lading Working Group
Currently chartered to establish a definition that is flexible and can be enhanced as additional requirements are identified. The Bill of Lading should be a standard.
Location Working Group
Currently chartered to update the current Location BSC specification to include updated component definition, variations, configurations, etc. that represents the needs of any mode of transportation, public and private sector in a global scale.
Shipment Working Group
Currently chartered to define the Shipment transaction and its components, variations, and dependencies.
Implementation Technical Committee (ITC)
The purpose of the ITC is to develop a framework, guidance, and examples for the implementation of a Draft BSC Specification in a blockchain environment. The framework, guidance and examples for a given Standard will be made public along with that Standard.
Once a new BSC Standard has been recommended by the working group, approved by the Data Format Technical Committee, and ratified by the BSC Board of Directors, one or more reference implementations will be created as examples of the standard(s). The ITC will execute a process to create the reference implementation.
